For the industry to meet increasing challenges, a trained, skilled and competent workforce is essential
Our built environment sector emits over a third of Ireland’s national emissions. In line with the Government’s Climate Action Plan, we need to reduce these emissions by 50% by 2030, which means we will need the right people, with the right skills, working in our industry. Now, more than ever, we need skilled and competent people. We need to attract, develop and retain talent across the wider built environment and across a breadth of occupations to improve productivity and enable construction to thrive.
According to BUSI2030 (Build Up Skills Ireland), the country will need around 120,000 additional skilled construction workers to meet the ambitious targets set for 2030. It’s about building an industry that is a great place to work, with opportunities for all, where everyone is treated fairly and inclusively and with clear routes of entry and progression (both upskilling and reskilling) to attract and retain diverse talent.
