Fairness, Inclusion and Respect

Promoting a culture of fairness, inclusion and respect brings many business benefits to the companies that work to achieve it.

What is FIR, and how can you achieve it?

Fairness, Inclusion & Respect – FIR – means fairer, more inclusive organisation where colleagues feel empowered to be themselves and make the most of their talents whilst respecting and valuing the diversity of cultures, views and values of their team members.

Our vision is one of a more inclusive built environment sector, that is better able to attract, recruit, train and retain talent and meet the expectations of all our stakeholders.

Promoting a culture of fairness, inclusion and respect brings many business benefits to the companies that work to achieve it. As a sector, we need to embrace FIR in order to attract, recruit, train and retain the skills in order to address the industry-wide skills shortage. Clients and large contractors are increasingly expecting their supply chain partners to work with them to achieve this.

Inclusions Starts With I

Watch this video to learn about the power of diversity.

Inclusion starts with I

A 2022 report found that 63% of construction companies in Ireland find it hard to recruit talent, owing to a lack of career options and negative perceptions about working in the industry. One in three construction firms believe young talent is emigrating from Ireland.

Add to that the sector’s ability to meet the Government’s housing policy target and requirement of 33,000 homes built per year by 2030, we have a skills shortage that is only going to get worse. A sizeable part of our workforce is over 55 years old.

When it comes to productivity growth in construction, levels in Ireland are falling behind other business sectors. So as an industry we have a need for talent. Promoting a culture of Fairness, Inclusion & Respect can help attract, recruit, train and retain the skills to address this skills shortage.
